Samuel the Blanding's Turtle - “Samuel's Most Important Message” Story

We have partnered with the Junction Creek Stewardship Committee and the Greater Sudbury Public Library to bring the story of Samuel the Blanding's turtle to the Junction Creek trail system. “Samuel's Most Important Message” is a children's book written by educator Frank Glew.

The story will be posted along the trail system within Rotary Park. Community members are invited to read the story boards while enjoying the family-friendly trails. This story was first posted at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area (and has since been replaced with a new story about bees and pollinators).

The story will be launched on May 26, including a community walk and story reading. The book will remain posted throughout the season.

Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day

Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day at Lake Laurentian Conservation Area, scheduled for Sunday February 14, has been cancelled.

The overall ice thickness is sufficient for safety, however there is significant slush on most of the lake. Conservation Sudbury staff feel that the conditions are not suitable for families to have an enjoyable day on the lake. Since this event is geared towards introducing families, and especially children, to the fun of ice fishing, we would want everyone to have a positive first experience. We don't believe the current ice conditions, combined with the cold temperatures expected for the weekend, would provide a positive experience.

Thank you to all our sponsors and partners for their support, and we look forward to seeing you at our Family Fishing event in July!
