Lake Laurentian Conservation Area 2016 Events
Tales on the Trails presents our new story trail:
Melissa’s Magnificent Message
Reading Town/Ville Lecture in partnership with Conservation Sudbury and the Greater Sudbury Public Library, present a new Tales on the Trails Story Trail: Melissa’s Magnificent Message. This Story Trail is for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and families who are looking for a new way to experience the outdoors. A self-guided story time has been created for the 1 km Self-Guided Trail located at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area. The trail will now feature a story written by Frank Glew, author and educator from Kitchener, Ontario. The story, called “Melissa’s Magnificent Message”, features a special honey bee who needs your help to take care of pollinators and to make the planet greener. As you buzz along the trail, watch for the specially marked signs along the way to enjoy this bee-lightful story.
When: Sunday May 1
Time: 2:30-4:30 p.m.
Where: Lake Laurentian Conservation Area Nature Chalet, 2309 South Bay Road
The public is invited to join us to launch the new Story Trail with a hike (1 km) to hear the story of Melissa the special honey bee, and to participate in a special presentation by Paul Adam of the Sudbury Beekeeper’s Association. There will be door prizes of local honey and copies of the story.
This free event is open to people of all ages and we encourage you to bring the entire family to join in!

Evening Owl Prowls at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area
Back by popular demand! Join Conservation Sudbury for our exciting evening Owl Prowls. Come over to the dark side and meet those amazing birds that exist by moonlight!
Spend the evening with Chris Blomme and Greg Blomme, from the Sudbury Ornithological Society, who will introduce you to the fascinating lives of our local species of owls. Then take a quiet night hike, where we will try to call in some wild owls. Warm up with hot chocolate in the Nature Chalet afterwards.
This free event is family friendly. Participants should bring a flashlight for the night hike.

Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day
Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day at Lake Laurentian Conservation Area, scheduled for Sunday February 14, has been cancelled.
The overall ice thickness is sufficient for safety, however there is significant slush on most of the lake. Conservation Sudbury staff feel that the conditions are not suitable for families to have an enjoyable day on the lake. Since this event is geared towards introducing families, and especially children, to the fun of ice fishing, we would want everyone to have a positive first experience. We don't believe the current ice conditions, combined with the cold temperatures expected for the weekend, would provide a positive experience.
Thank you to all our sponsors and partners for their support, and we look forward to seeing you at our Family Fishing event in July!
